Have you wondered about Archangels, whether you have one, and what the hidden name of that Archangel may be? If so, you are not alone. Archangels have played an important role in many spiritual traditions for millennia, particularly in the West and in the Middle East.
Some of the earliest references to Archangels have been found in Zoroastrianism, and they are found in all three of the Abrahamic faiths, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Archangels also have astrological and numerological associations. This article will discuss the topic of Archangels, who they are and will suggest a method for determining the name of your hidden Archangel through numerology and your Life Path Number.
Who Are the Archangels?
According to Traditional thought, all life and matter was part of a hierarchy known as the Great Chain of Being. This Chain begins with God at the top and extends to plants and minerals at the very bottom. In the Middle Ages, it was generally accepted that all spiritual and temporal authority derived from this Chain. In human society, this Chain has been broken for a very long time. While the Enlightenment marked the final shattering of the Chain in the West, it had arguably already been in trouble for many centuries prior to that.
Even though the Chain has been broken in the human world, there is every reason to believe that it is still intact in the angelic realms. In Christianity, the most commonly accepted angelic hierarchy was first put forth by Pseudo-Dionysius in the 4th or 5th Century and expanded upon by Thomas Aquinas in the 13th Century.
In this hierarchy, just above human beings in the Great Chain are our personal guardian angels. Above them are angels as a general class. The Archangels are just above the ordinary angels. So, when we are seeking our own Archangel, we are trying to discover who is in charge of our personal guardian angels, whose names we may never learn.
The Seven Traditional Archangels
Different traditions have different numbers of Archangels and different names for them. One commonly accepted version is the Seven Archangels that are said to govern the Seven Traditional Planets. According to the famous Renaissance astrologer, William Lilly, the Archangels and their planetary associations are as listed below:
- Archangel Cassiel (Captiel) – Saturn
- Archangel Zadkiel – Jupiter
- Archangel Samuel – Mars
- Archangel Micheal – Sun
- Archangel Anael – Venus
- Archangel Raphael – Mercury
- Archangel Gabriel – Moon
Other Lists and Associations
There are other lists of Archangel names and associations. Islam has its own list as does Judaism. While William Lilly was a well-respect authority, there does not appear to be a consensus about specific associations of the Archangels with the planets across authors and authorities.
The Archangels and Numerology
One way to determine the Archangel who has jurisdiction over your personal guardian angel or angels is through numerology. A numerologist, Sarah Yip, discovered that in Pythagorean Numerology, there were 9 Archangels whose names added up to the numbers 1 through 9. In this numerological system, each letter has a number. These numbers are:
A, J, S -1
B, K, T – 2
C, L, U – 3
D, M, V – 4
E, N, W – 5
F, O, X – 6
G, P, Y – 7
H, Q, Z – 8
I, R – 9
Sarah Yip postulates that the Archangels are associated with the Life Path that corresponds to the number of their name.
Your Life Path Number
In the discipline of numerology, we have several different numbers that describe us and aspects of our lives and our personalities. One of the most important of these numbers is our Life Path Number. You can determine your Life Path Number from your date of birth.
- Step 1: Determine the number of the month of your birth. If you were born between January and September, it will just be that month’s number. If you were born between October and December, add the digits of the month together, so October would be 10, which is 1+0 = 1, November would be 11, which is 1+1 = 2, and December would be 12, which is 1+2 = 3.
- Step 2: Simplify the number of the day of your birth. Add the digits until you come to a single number.
- Step 3: Simplify the number of your year of birth.
- Step 4: Add the three numbers and simplify until you come to a single-digit number or to the numbers 11, 22, or 33, which are the Master Numbers
As an example, if you were born on March 23, 1985, the number of your month would be 3. The number of the day would simplify to 2+3 = 5, and the number of your year would simplify to 1+9+8+5 = 23, 2+3 =5. Adding the 3 digits together, you would get 3+5+5 = 13, 1+3 = 4. Thus, your Life Path Number would be 4.

The Archangels and Your Intuition
Aside from the planetary associations and the Archangels whose names correspond with each Life Path in numerology, one of the best ways to discover the Archangel you are under is through your own intuition. While intuition can refer to psychic senses, it can also refer to the Inner Knowing that is inside your heart.
In order to focus your intuition, you might want to think about the Archangels and read about them. Perhaps start with the Archangel associated with your Life Path Number. Meditate on what you have learned and see if that Archangel resonates with you. If not, do not worry, there may be another Archangel that seems to make more sense.
You may find that this changes over time. For example, at one point in your life, you may have seemed to resonate with Archangel Raphael, but now Archangel Ariel seems to fit you better. This is not a cause for worry or concern. Just accept it.
It is important to understand that the Archangels have our best interests at heart and they want to help us. They will not be offended if you call upon a different one. If you call upon one that you are not assigned to, that Archangel will either help you or gently direct you to the proper one.
The heavenly realm is said to be a wondrous place with many levels of angels to guide us, protect us, and look after us. We have personal guardian angels who are governed by the Archangels. Each of us is said to be under the jurisdiction of one or more of these Archangels. One way to determine the name of your Archangel is through numerology and your Life Path Number. There are 9 Archangels whose names have the same number as the 9 major Life Paths. You can also determine the Name of your Archangel through study, prayer, and mediation.
